The Sharon Land Trust is a community-based nonprofit organization dedicated to preserving the rural heritage of Sharon, Connecticut. Within Litchfield County, three of Sharon Land Trust’s special properties are dedicated into the Old-Growth Forest Network. Each preserve contains forest land that is protected forever from logging so that it may recover to old-growth status.
Goodbody Preserve comprises 107 acres with 87 acres in forestland. The average forest age is approximately 100 years with occasional trees to greater than 150 years. Mixed conifer and hardwoods prevail. The preserve captures important ridgeline, hilltop, and terrain features in a highly visible location above Mudge Pond in Sharon. The view of this area is considered one of the finest in northwestern Connecticut.
Hamlin Farm Preserve includes 278 acres with 228 in forest and wetland. The average forest age is approximately 100 years with occasional trees greater than 150 years. Mixed conifer and hardwoods dominate the forest canopy. This preserve also captures an important ridgeline and terrain feature in a highly visible location.
Sharon Mountain Preserve includes 159 acres. The average forest age is approximately 100 years. The forest is comprised of mixed hardwoods and a core waterfowl wetland.
