Jennie Drake Park

Jennie Drake Park sits on just over 4 acres of forest in the Historic Collier Heights neighborhood of Atlanta. Mature oaks, beeches, and tulip poplars are surrounded by old-growth ground plants, such as jack-in-the-pulpit and wild ginger. A tributary of Sandy Creek flows through the park. In 2016, the park was designated as a participant in the Atlanta Audubon Society's Wildlife Sanctuary Program. In 2003, Jennie Drake, whose home was next to the seven vacant lots, learned of plans to build houses on the lots that are now park property. She and a number of her neighbors were concerned that housing would not be the best use of the vacant land. They learned from then City Council Member Felicia Moore about the possibility of having the land declared green space. Mrs. Drake took the lead in advocating for this. In May of 2007, the Atlanta City Council voted to purchase the property to create a passive park.
