Kulana'ahane Trail
From Moanalua Valley Park (NOT Moanalua Gardens) a gated dirt road offers a nice walk under the dappled shade of trees. At 2-½ miles up the road, the Kulana'ahane Trail branches off to the left. The location is well marked with a sign. This side valley contains a more pristine native forest which includes Koa, Kukui, and Ohia trees. Expect stream crossings and some slippery rocks. Eventually the valley trail leads up the ridge. If you make it all the way to the top of the ridge there are gorgeous views to be enjoyed. It is best to plan a full day for this hike since it is over 8 miles roundtrip. Expect some mud and a great time.
