Pilcher Park Nature Center
Pilcher Park is a large and diverse forest complex featuring 52 acres of old-growth mesic upland forests. Other significant features include a Native American burial mound and a reburial site. Pilcher Park is one of northeastern Illinois’ premiere woodlands with outstanding spring wildflower displays and old-growth trees. During a study of the site, one bur oak tree was cored back to 1707. More than 270 native plant species have been documented within Pilcher Park, and at least 11 species of birds with moderate to high sensitivity to habitat fragmentation breed on site.
