Carlisle Pines

In 1901 a tract of over one hundred virgin white pines was saved from logging and given to the Appalachian Mountain Club to hold as a public reservation. Many were over 100 feet tall, and may have already been mature trees at the time of the Revolutionary War. Today only about half a dozen are still standing. They remain impressive, and are joined by several ancient hemlocks. The 22-acre property is now managed by nearby Great Brook Farm State Park.
