Parker’s Creek Preserve - South Side, East Loop
This mature oak-hickory forest surrounds the headwaters of the Governor's Run Watershed. Old maps show this area as being one of the largest forested areas left in the mid-1800s. Although not true old-growth, it has probably not been logged in over a century and a half. Nice black gum, tulip poplar, sycamore and beech may also be seen in this impressively diverse forest. The American Chestnut Land Trust manages over 3,000 acres in Calvert County, but the oldest forest they manage is the one that can be experienced along the 2 mile long East Loop Trail. This is very close to Calvert Cliffs on the Chesapeake Bay.
