Black Mountain - Donnell Pond Ecological Reserve
The Donnell Pond Ecological Reserve totals approximately 2000 acres, encompassing the summit and slopes of several small to mid-elevation mountains. Most common forest types include northern hardwood forest, and spruce-fir forest. Much of this Maine Bureau of Parks and Lands Ecological Reserve has evidence of historic timber management. A small stand of spruce- fir forest nested in a saddle on Black Mountain, west of Wizard Pond, has little to no evidence of past timber harvest, with oldest trees aged at roughly 200 years. Wizard Pond is a small waterbody hidden between the summits of Black Mountain.
