Crow's Nest Trail - Tallmadge Woods
Tallmadge Woods protects 80 acres of upland forests and wetlands near the confluence of the Kalamazoo river and Lake Michigan. Old trees are present as individuals and within small groves in a mature forest. Several hemlock groves contain trees around 200 years old but no formal study of tree ages has been undertaken. Red oak, white oak, eastern hemlock, american beech, black cherry, basswood, red maple, sugar maple, and sassafras are common throughout the forest. The Crow’s Nest Trail is approximately a 1.7 mile loop through the forest with a fantastic lookout deck with a view towards open dunes and the shoreline of Lake Michigan.
