Newton Woods - Michigan State University Fred Russ Forest
The 80-acre Newton Woods is one of the last remaining old-growth, oak-mixed hardwood stands in Michigan's lower peninsula. Newton Woods exists within the Fred Russ Experimental Forest owned by Michigan State University. Minor management has occurred in the past, including thinnings in 1941 and 1956. 40 acres of the forest was designated as a National Natural Landmark in 1976.
