Sylvania Wilderness - Ottawa National Forest

Sylvania Wilderness encompasses approximately 18,400 acres. This large, primarily undisturbed area includes 34 named lakes, islands, rolling hills, marshes, bogs, wetlands and secluded old growth forests. Sylvania is a northern hardwood forests where dominant tree species include sugar maple, white pine, eastern hemlock, yellow birch, white birch and red pine. The specific acreage of “old-growth” within Sylvania is undocumented however, the majority of the 18,400 acres is relatively untouched old-growth forest.
