Summer Update from OGFN Founder, Dr. Joan Maloof
It has been almost two years since I turned over my Executive Director duties to Sarah Adloo. Sarah is a fantastic ED, and the Old-Growth Forest Network is growing faster than ever. I have kept my role as Founder and Board Member and I am still active in OGFN work, but without the responsibilities of administrative duties.
Right after “semi-retirement” I treated myself to a solo trek across Bhutan. I was most interested in the old-growth forests there, and I got to spend time in many of them.
I have also been writing, and I just published a memoir that is very, very, different from my earlier books. If you want to think of me as only a forest-saving angel, be warned! I am quite complex, as we all are. The new book is called: Wild Old Woman: From Burning Man to Bhutan. If you do decide to read it, I hope you’ll tell me what you think.
I have been working to save local forests near my Maryland home, something I didn’t have much time for while I was running a national organization.
I am still giving interviews, Zooms, and in-person talks about the importance of old- growth forests and the work of OGFN. And I still spend as much time in the forests as I can.
Yes, I am still writing, still saving forests (and encouraging others to do the same), still active with OGFN, and still passionate about taking the time to love our living Earth.
