Simpson Forest at

Phillips Park

Simpson Forest at Phillips Park in Loveland, Ohio encompasses approximately 50 acres of hillside and flood plain forest. Aerial imagery from 1932 shows approximately 10 acres of mature forest being present at the time. The canopy and subcanopy of this old-growth forest are dominated by large trees and shrubs representing nearly 30 species of native woody plants including large hickories, oaks, cherries, maples, and beeches. The forest has a diverse assemblage of perennial wildflowers and small trees/shrubs in the understory. Other than foot paths along the ridge and down to the valley, the tract has not been disturbed and certainly has not been cut. Local conservationists are working to remove nonnative invasive plant removal efforts and subsequent plantings of native vegetation. Community appreciation and engagement in conservation activities will help to protect and enhance the health of this cherished forest.
