Erie Bluffs State Park

Erie Bluffs lies along the Lake Erie shoreline in western Erie County, twelve miles west of the city of Erie. The park has a mile of shoreline and 90-foot picturesque bluffs overlooking Lake Erie. It contains 430 acres of forest in various stages of growth. The older growth trees grow closer to the shoreline and along the Duck Run ravine. The highly mature forest is species rich, with large red and black oaks and sugar maple on the edge of the Duck Run Ravine. Other species include red maple, sugar maple, black cherry, Eastern hemlock, American hop-hornbeam, tulip poplar, sassafras, pignut hickory, bitternut hickory, black locust, and basswood. Pumpkin ash is a rare tree species also found in the park. A black oak woodland/savannah, Great Lakes region sand barren ecosystems, and forested wetlands also occur here.
