Wilderness Area - Watoga State Park
A tributary of Rock Run stream flows between the Ann Bailey Trail and the Burnside Ridge Trail. In this wilderness area there are 500-1000 acres of mixed hardwoods. Many oaks in 300-350 year range have been found. Ancient trees of many species have been found: white oak, red oak, chestnut oak, black oak, yellow poplar, black gum, pitch pine, white pine, mockernut hickory, black birch, and cucumber tree. Tree size, crown structure, and bark texture all indicate ancient forest. The amount of old-growth is still undetermined. There are clear signs of animal use by black bears, bobcats, deer, turkeys, and owls.
